Gold Medal for Brecon Student

Robert Davies with his gold medalRobert Davies competed in the German Open Table Tennis Championships for disabled athletes and won a gold medal in the doubles competition.

It was a three day event in which Robert played in three different areas of the competition; the open, singles and doubles.  In the doubles competition he was paired up with German player Holger Nikelas.   The pair managed to beat players that were ranked much higher and came away as the winners.

It was the perfect ending to a long competitive season for Robert and he has now started his second year of the Sports Performance Foundation Degree at the Brecon site of Coleg Powys.

More Success for Mature Students

The Business department at Coleg Powys has a reason to celebrate as four of its mature students successfully completed year 2 and 3 of the Foundation Degree in Management and Business in one year. The four students were Steven Jarvis, Joanne Preece, Sally Morgan and Daniel McDonald.

All the students did this whilst working full time and studying part time. Steven Jarvis also had the added responsibility of becoming a father in July with the birth of his first child.

Joy Burgin, Business lecturer, congratulated the students, adding: “It took a lot of hard work on their part to accomplish this and they showed real dedication and determination to complete the qualification. This is no mean feat as they all have full time jobs and family commitments of one sort or another.”

Coleg Powys offers a wide range of courses with flexible delivery methods for adult learners. This ensures that the needs of each student are met; allowing them to organise their study commitments around work and family obligations. Such courses enable people to further their existing career or can provide them with the opportunity to change career path.

The Business school is only one area that offers a range of courses that are tailored to support the needs of students.
