As the summer term closed, the Sing in Company class in Ystradgynlais invited friends, family and the wider local community to their third concert since the group first formed.

As the group grows in strength, numbers and confidence they raise the standard of performances and this was evidenced not only through the performance itself but the approach, stance and smiles of all involved.  

The night included hit songs from the Beatles, Nat King Cole and Kylie Minogue.  At one point while the rain poured down outside a version of the Weather Girls “Raining Men” resonated from the inside. 

The audience were encouraged to sing along at the end and even those whose singing is usually confined to the privacy of the car or shower couldn’t help but join in.

The Sing in Company class is offered as part of the adult & community provision that Coleg Powys runs throughout Powys.  The class meet once a week at Abercraf Primary School.

Sing in Company will be performing on Thursday 25th March from 8pm at Abercrave School.  They will be performing rock, pop, motown, jazz, blues and country music songs which they have learnt over the past ten weeks.  Admission is free.

Sing in Company is a new mixed choir that is designed for people who’d like to join a choir, but aren’t sure whether they can sing.  The group is run by Alun Brookfield and is organised through the Adult Education Programme of Coleg Powys.

There was a treat in store for all who attended the “Sing in Company” concert held in Abercrave School on the evening of Thursday 26th November.  This unique Adult choir who meet in Abercrave primary school brought Rock and pop to an audience of family, friends and community members, with a fantastic performance including hit songs from, Abba, Neil Diamond and a special rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Halleluiah”.

With only 10 weeks of lessons behind them they braved the fear of a live performance and were rewarded by an overwhelming response from the audience who insisted on an encore at the end of the night.  The Musical Director Alun Brookfield said: “The looks on the faces of the choir members said it all; they were happy, confident and enjoying every minute of the music; which is what this group is all about”.
